Das Bärenhaus history

A rare opportunity awaits you! This gorgeous historic Georgian Federal home residence is recognized and certified by the Mauch Chunk Historic Society as the ‘’oldest unaltered home in Mauch Chunk’’. The property boasts 18 rooms- 5 full baths, 6 bedrooms; absolutely beautiful living and dining room with native red pine wide plank floors, open staircase, wonderful library/music room, study, and a warm, inviting kitchen.

We welcome you to host your next event in our home. This is ideally laid out for hosting a wedding party, rehearsal dinner, baby or wedding shower, sprinkle, reveal party, retreat, family holiday, girls get-away weekend, seance, dinner party, workshops of all kinds, team building weekends, or even a tea party. You’ll love the little touches throughout the home like fine china, silver tea service, historic tidbits, crystal, wireless chargers, bluetooth speakers, Alexa’s and antiques passed down owner to owner for nearly 200 years mixed in with some of our own family treasures as well as musical instruments… all available for your enjoyment. As much as Jim Thorpe has do and offer we ourselves have a hard time leaving the house while in town.  You can’t help but notice the warm positive energy within its walls.

Your Stay

Das Bärenhaus is a place to gather, sleeping up to 20 Guests. With 6 bedrooms, 4 of which have private full bathrooms, 2 share a full bathroom. On the main level of house you’ll find a formal living room, beautiful formal dining room, fully appointed kitchen, and a music room/library. The third level of the home consists of 3 bedrooms, each with a private bathroom. Steps from the bedrooms you’ll enjoy the private study where you’ll find the coffee/tea bar and writing desk. While there is no need to do any laundry during your stay there is also one available on this level, this is where you’ll find all the baby/toddler essentials you’ll need. The outside grounds are just lovely with a private English gardens, including a 119 year old Japanese dwarf red maple tree, beautiful landscaping, and stone walls. Be sure to make use of the tranquil screened in gazebo with plush conversation seating and coffee table where you can watch the passersby on stroll down Broadway while you enjoy the scenic surroundings and view.

We can accommodate parking for 4 cars in our private spaces located in our lot across the street. There is paid parking in Jim Thorpe’s public lots, but none on Broadway. Please try and limit your group to 4 vehicles. Parking is scarce in Jim Thorpe and heavily enforced.

Guest Access

Guests will have use of the entire home minus a few owner closets, and utility room.

Other Notes

The home is equip with surveillance cameras. You may unplug the interior cameras during your stay if you wish.
